Douglas Wade shares his story of how he joined the South African Reserve Police Force (SARPF) in 1979 at the old Durban Central Police Station at the age of 32 and as a practising attorney. His decision to join was in reaction to the 1976 Soweto uprisings which served to redefine and polarise the political scenery. In this memoir, Douglas tries to give an accurate impression of what it was like for him to be a member of the SARPF for 18 years. This is done through a series of accurate snapshots of incidents and people that he recalls and to give some context to these as he had seen it at that time.
