Between 2015 and 2018, Cape Town experienced three years of very low rainfall – a 1 in 590-year event. This sparked fears of an impending ‘Day Zero’, when the city might become the first in the world to run out of water. Peter Flower, the city’s director of Water and Sanitation during the drought, reflects on how the city managed its water supply during what he refers to as “the perfect storm”.
