Those who watch American tele- vision shows or movies, are familiar with the image of a sheriff. Some of the well-known detectives include Sheriff Buford T Justice (also known as Smokey) who was one half of the "Smokey and the Bandit" movie, the loveable Sheriff Ep Bridges from the television series "The Waltons" and then there is Toy Story's Sheriff Woody Pride, who wears an empty gun holster on his belt (Berman, 2020). In the United States, a sheriff is a law enforcement official, elected at local level for a term of several years, and often a highly influential political figure in the community in which he or she serves. They are generally responsible for patrolling their communities, apprehending violators of the law and serving legal process. They are also responsible for their community's prison and sometimes even have to perform autopsies (Rose Attorneys, 2012).
