n Journal of Minimum Intervention in Dentistry - What is the clinical bleaching effect of 10 and 15% Carbamide peroxide based products for home use tooth whitening? [November 10, 2018] - preliminary systematic literature searches

Volume 13 Number 4
  • ISSN : 1998-801X

Search result: 2 systematic reviews and 10 clinical trials were found.

Clinical outcomes: The results suggest Carbamide peroxide (CP 10 and 20%) to be more effective in color change than Hydrogen peroxide (HP). In addition, (i) CP 10% appears no more effective than CP 5%, (ii) no difference was observed between CP 10% and CP15% and (iii) the use of CP10% appears more comfortable to patients than HP 10%. However, its clinical relevance is unfavourable and potential side-effects of at-home bleaching should be considered.

State of evidence and recommendations: The quality of the existing evidence requires further assessment.

[‘Preliminary Systematic Literature Searches’ are based on SYSTEM’s periodic systematic searches of the dental literature and provide first overviews over existing clinical evidence but are limited in the number of databases
searched, as well as the assessment of precision and internal validity of results and thus do not replace the need for a full systematic review report to the topic]
