The primary thrust of this article is that the nature and scope of school violence is most adequately addressed from a human rights perspective. In an attempt to advance this thesis an initial attempt is made to derive a human rights based definition of violence. This definition is then employed in the development of a framework for conceptualizing school violence, and finally the implications of a human rights perspective on school violence are considered.
