In the past 40 years, much of agricultural research has focused on increasing cereal production. Recently, however, there has been a shift to produce more nutrient-rich food to reduce micronutrient deficiencies, also known as ‘hidden hunger’. The introduction of biofortified crops is already improving nutrition among poor, rural farming communities. Denene Erasmus reports.
