As one of the musicologists who achieved dubious stardom in Aryan Kaganof’s films on Marikana I feel an obligation to add my response to those that have already appeared in SAMUS 34/35. I was not given a preview into these films (why not?!), as seems to have been the case with the other authors, so I have to be forgiven if my response is a rather belated one. After having read the other responses, some of which, in my opinion, overflowed with double standards or bordered on cowardly pontification, it struck me that two glaring shortcomings in Kaganof’s project have not been pointed out.
