Abstract

Raising a child is like planting a tree. To give them their best chance in life they must be shielded from harm and nurtured with love and attention, so their roots can take hold. When parents separate from one another, they often forget the message they are giving to their children. Sometimes when parents separate the one parent chooses to estrange their child from the other parent, which is known as parental alienation. This amounts to a form of child abuse and is often the cause of serious psychological damage to children.
