The South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) is quite probably the most widely discussed institution of transitional justice to date. Opinions about the general work of the TRC range from bitter to beatific. Yet, if the results of a comprehensive survey on the matter are anything to go by, members of the public are united in their disapprobation of the amnesty granted by theTRC (James L Gibson (2004) 258-88).
