Cecil Rhodes is probably one of the most written about men of the European colonial era. The early biographies of Rhodes were, nearly without exception, written by some of his countrymen. Written in an age when Britain was at the height of her power, and empire building was still supported by the majority of its populace, it is easy to understand the adoration for Rhodes displayed in these works. With the passage of time and the subsequent end of the era of colonialism, new information has come to light. This information has assisted and will assist in future in the reinterpretation of Cecil John Rhodes and his time.
