In 1871, the British anthropologist Edward Burnett Tylor, defined culture as �that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morals, custom and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society�. In other words, culture is a way of life, a system of values shared by a particular group, nation or people. Culture provides a means of identification and self-assertion for the individual as well as the collective.
