It appears that food yeast is useful as an adjunct in infant-feeding as a source of extra protein and B vitamins. As far as present experience indicates, it appears to be digestible. One infant refused to eat it. The amounts given might be too high, especially in the case of very young infants. Food yeast appears to be useful in the control of mild cases of infantile diarrhoea, as shown in the present series of 17 infants, European, Native and Coloured. More experimental work in this field is indicated before it could be recommended for general use in the treatment of this condition, especially in view of the purin content of food yeast. One has the impression that while food yeast is useful when first used in a case of infantile diarrhoea, it is not so effective if used shortly afterwards on the same infant for a subsequent attack of the diarrhoea.
