Abstract

A case is descriptionbed of ossification in the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee joint, heterotopic in nature, associated with a tear of the internal semiluar cartilage. The exciting factor in the heterotopic ossification was most probably traumatic, giving rise to a lesion of the internal cartilage and the heterotopic ossification in the anterior cruciate ligament. The patient's symptoms were no doubt almost entirely attributable to the torn cartilage but the body, on account of its free mobility, may havebeen responsible to some small extent. To explain the exact pathology of the formation of heterotopic bone in the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee joint is not easy but the theories of Leriche and Policard afford some assistance.
