Abstract

Cultures of Iymphocytes from an elderly patient with agammaglobulinaemia showed RNA synthesis of, probably, a normal rate, but almost complete absence of DNA replication, which suggests that the disease is due to an absence of cells capable of lymphoblastic transformation by phytohaemagglutinin (PHA), or if they are present, an inability of such cells to undergo transformation.
