Abstract

The striated muscles of the pelvic floor and perineum, supported by the pelvic fascia, co-operate with each other and with the viscera which traverse them to (i) prevent eversion of pelvic viscera from a high pressure region to a low pressure one; (ii) maintain continence; and (iii) control expulsive activities.
