Abstract

Over one hundred years ago the psychologists Robert Yerkes and John Dodson proved the relationship between human arousal (stress) and performance. While the Yerkes-Dodson law has undergone various enhancements over the last century, their basic premise remains intact: namely, that there is an optimum level of arousal where people perform at their best, and other levels where too little or too much stimulation results in lethargy and discontent or overload and breakdown.
