Abstract

Since we are a meeting of mixed language origins, it may be of real importance to clarify our terminology. In addition to the word reconciliation, which denotes the restored relationship between striving factions, thus appeasement, several other words function on more or less the same level in, religious speech. Expiation signifies the paying of a penalty, the tpaking of amends, whereby the relationship is restored. Atonement deals, with the unification of striving factions by making amends for whatever caused the trouble. All three these words are represented in Afrikaans by the word ""versoening"".
