Abstract

This article summarises the present pandemic of novel Influenza A/H1N1 to date, with a review of the historical background of the infection, a short summary of the signs and symptoms, possible treatment at home and in hospital, as well as prevention measures that can be employed in suspected or confirmed cases. Attention is paid to publications from the Wold Heath Organization, the US Centres of Disease Prevention and Control (Atlanta, Georgia) and the South African Department of Health in this regard.
