Abstract

Bad breath, sometimes referred to as "halitosis", is defined as any detectable offensive smell that is carried on the breath. Halitosis can result from poor dental health habits, but may also be a sign of other health problems. Bad breath can also be made worse by the types of foods eaten, and other unhealthy lifestyle habits. Most people have some degree of bad breath after a night's sleep. This is normal, and occurs because the mouth tends to get dry overnight. This usually clears when the flow of saliva increases, soon after starting to eat breakfast.
