Abstract

Mouth ulcers, also known as aphthous ulcers, are painful open sores or lesions that form inside the mouth, either singly or in clusters. Mouth ulcers are extremely common. They affect as many as one in five people and are a recurrent problem in some. Mouth ulcers tend to be more common in women and people under the age of 40. The majority of mouth ulcers are minor aphthous ulcers which are self-limiting in nature.
