Abstract

The Charter lists twelve rights that patients have, whether they go to public or private sector facilities for health care. None of these rights are "stand alone" - they reinforce rights that are identified in the policies and laws of our country. The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, which is the supreme law of the land, specifies the rights that people in this country have. The Bill of Rights, which is part of the Constitution, gives all people resident in the country access to health care.
