This paper is based on the Best Scenario Presentation at the SAAHIP Conference 2013 The Expanded Program of Immunization (EPI) forms an integral part of preventative health care at primary healthcare (PHC) level. This cost-effective public health intervention is reliant on the widespread distribution, storage and use of vaccines at all levels of care, in both private and public healthcare settings. All of the vaccines on the EPI schedule are thermolabile, and require robust cold chain management to ensure the efficacy and integrity of the vaccine components from acquisition to end-point usage.
