Abstract

The tenebrionid tribe Laenini was first recorded from the Ethiopian Region (South Africa). The following new taxa are described, Laena ruthmuellerae spec. nov., Laena africana spec. nov., Afrolaena gen. nov. (type species A. tibialis spec. nov., A. parallela spec. nov., A. knysnaensis spec. nov., A. ornata spec. nov., A. elongata spec. nov., A. palpata spec. nov., A. natalica spec. nov., A. transkeiensis spec. nov) and Lucidolaena gen. nov. (type species L. amatolensis spec. nov.). Keys to the South African genera and species are provided. The genus Laena is recorded from the Northern and Western Cape, whereas Afrolaena gen. nov. and Lucidolaena gen. nov. occur in South Africa near the east coast, including the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape.
