A revision of the generic concepts of Afrotropical footman moths (Erebidae: Arctiinae: Lithosiini ()) is presented based on the (then) tribal and subtribal classification proposed by Birket-Smith (1965). At present the Afrotropical fauna consists of 333 nominally described species and subspecies, with 49 of these taxa considered junior subjective synonyms; approximately the same number awaits description. A total of 98 genera is recognized; 23 and 73 of these are assigned to the subtribes Lithosiina and Eilemina in the sense of Birket-Smith (1965), respectively, with Hampson and Hampson being treated as of uncertain position within the study group
