Durban University of Technology (DUT)

The Research Capacity Development office under the auspices of the Research and Postgraduate Support Directorate has recently launched a pioneer in-house journal titled the African Journal of Inter/Multidisciplinary Studies (AJIMS). The journal was first officially launched on 4 October 2019 at the Research, Innovation and Engagement Forum hosted by Professor Sibusiso Moyo, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement. Subsequently, the journal was also launched at the Public Lecture on Open Access hosted by the DUT Library on 21 October 2019 where the Chief Executive Officer of USAf – Professor Ahmed Bawa was the keynote speaker.

The journal is a response to recent developments in Interdisciplinary Research (IR) where researchers are gradually moving towards interdisciplinary studies in their research engagements. The aim of the journal is thus to explore how various academic efforts could be appropriated to address socially related issues. Importantly, the journal was also motivated by the fact that the Durban University of Technology (DUT) currently has no existing in-house journal. The editor of the journal, Dr Kunle Oparinde, notes that the journal is a welcome initiative for the institution and should in some way contribute to research outputs from DUT in the next few years once the journal has been indexed on international lists
