Abstract

This article examines the part played by human experience based on social and even academic factors, and thus, subjectivity in Qur'?nic exegetical discourse. Trends with their representatives belonging to various shades of opinion have been selected for this purpose. It uncovers numerous competing voices in Qur'?nic exegesis based on Jauss's variant horizons of expectations. At this broad level, trends are fairly uniform among particular perspectives of commentary. The conclusion arrived at is the prevalence of a dynamic interplay of external and internal (or personal) factors in the creation of meaning.
