Abstract

Typifying poetical lines by means of numerals (zero to nine), alone or in combination with alphabetical symbols, is usually done in a casual manner. Digits, however, have distinctive features. Nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio functions have been identified by descriptionptive statistics. The application of these features in the domain of poetical theory, particularly syntax, is discussed and illustrated by means of Young Babylonian (Ludlul bel nemeqi) examples.
