Abstract

The 2015 SAPS national half marathon championships were held in Tzaneen on 5 September 2015. Approximately 175 members, hailing from all the provinces and Head Office, participated in the undulating 21.1 km course. The race was incorporated into the Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre Spring Open hosted by the Tzaneen Marathon Club. The days prior to the event allowed the athletes to acclimatise and to do some local historic site visits. As part of its social responsibility efforts to benefit the local community, the Marathon Association contributed groceries and other nourishing products to the Badirammogo Disability Centre in the remote village of Moleketla in Tzaneen. The centre, which was opened in September 2014 and cares for 19 disabled children, has only the bare minimum in resources and the joy of the parents and the children could be seen when Capt Sekete, the chairman of the Marathon Association, and some of the athletes off-loaded the goods, which were contributed by the athletes.
