Abstract

It should be noted that, over the last five years, there appears to be growing support for the legalisation and associated ancillary decriminalisation of marijuana around the world. Marijuana is usually smoked (inhaled), but a liquid form - technically known as butane hash oil, or as "wax" - can also be reduced to a crystal form that is vapourised and then inhaled. The latter way of inhaling gives a much stronger "hit" or "high" for users. Marijuana is also known as "cannabis" and is known colloquially in South Africa as "dagga". The term "dagga" is the Afrikaans pronunciation of the Khoisan word "", which was also the word used by the early indigenous population to describe the local hemp plant that they used for its medicinal and narcotic effects when smoked (Collins Dictionary; The Free Dictionary).
