Abstract

Cybercrime is probably one of the most underestimated crimes when it comes to the personal security of South Africans. We tend to forget that there are people out there who make a living out of crime and those criminals who are using digital means to achieve it are no different from the dude holding a gun/knife who has just managed to break down your front door. Being a protector does not provide immunity from that from which you are protecting people. Keeping the same password for multiple accounts is the same as leaving your front door key under the pot plant at your entrance (it's hard to believe, but yes, some people still do this). We tend to forget that the sgebengu down the road, the 419 scammer, the Santa Claus drug dealer, the house robber, the pickpocket and all other general bad guys have criminal plans to cause heartache to us and the ones we love.
