Abstract

The term "security theatre" is a derogatory term often used to describe the illusion of safety created by commercial or government entities to placate their clients or the public when it comes to their security concerns. The airline industry is an example: they implement mechanisms for the average air passenger to contend with, while playing down the ease with which a determined terrorist can improvise methods of creating a disaster. For example, we often get situations where passengers are given hell about the length of the pointy attachment on their nail clippers, yet steel knives and forks are used on flights.
