Abstract

Swift water rescue involves the use of ropes and mechanical advantage systems and specially trained personnel because of the added pressure of moving water. It is a specialised rescue service that poses serious danger to both victims and rescue personnel. Also called white water rescue, the main goal of swift water rescue is to use or deflect the water's power to assist in the rescue of the endangered persons, as in most situations there is no easy way to overcome the power of the water. As a swift water rescue scene evolves, the incident command system (ICS) will emerge.
