Abstract

Snap Lake is unique in Canada, as it is the first fully underground diamond mine in the country. It is also De Beers' first diamond mine outside Africa. The mine is located about 220 km northeast of Yellowknife on the shores of Snap Lake in the Northwest Territories. The orebody is a 2,5 m thick kimberlite dyke that dips an average of 12 to 15° towards the southeast.
