Abstract

The local mining industry has been at a tipping point for sometime now. This is largely attributable to labour unrest, and commodity processing and electricity costs. The mining industry's sustainability has been severely compromised due to unreliable and increasingly expensive electricity. The long-term negative economic impact of these price increases would result in damage to investor confidence, employment, capital expenditure and to the manufacturing sectors supporting the mining industry.
