SA IRRIGATION - April / May 2006 - 15 agriculture To better understand Controlled Release Fertilisers (CRF), one first needs to distinguish between the different types of fertilisers available in to world today. Probably the most well-known and widely used are the insoluble fertilisers, which consist of NPK blends or the single macro elements. The second group consists of soluble fertilisers. These are readily dissolved in water and applied via irrigation systems, generally known as fertigation products. The next group, called Slow Release Fertilisers, includes products that are significantly smaller in volume and possess a variety of release mechanisms. ..
