South Africa's daily road traffic is characterised by numerous hauliers and commuters wasting countless man-hours on gridlocked highways feeding Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Tshwane. In Gauteng however, the government plans to target those commuters stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic, in a development that could free up the road network for cargo trucks. The Gautrain project is a testament of the Gauteng Provincial Government's commitment to the future of the province by investing in infrastructure projects and comprises a rapid rail link between Tshwane, Johannesburg and the Johannesburg International Airport (JIA).
