TWA May / June 2005 - 27 The new rail terminal in the proposed Multipurpose Terminal (MPT) near the Durban harbour will facilitate the transfer of bulk cargo from rail to road and vice versa. The terminal represents a crucial phase in the Durban Port development plan. The National Ports Authority (NPA) appointed Protekon Construction Services on a 12 month contract to construct the terminal near the existing harbour sheds. A conceptual track and terminal layout were produced, with reach stackers as the predominate equipment operating within the terminal.
