Extracted from text ... rail Improving the rail service in the Eastern Cape The South African Government is keen to make rail links throughout the Eastern Cape to improve cargo services. The Eastern Cape Rail Committee (ECRC) has been formed to review and advise on the integration of the new rail infrastructure. The under-utilised rail network and excessive road damage caused by heavy road freight suggests that rail freight transport should be promoted in order to support socio-economic development and growth in the province. The rail network of the Eastern Cape consists of about 3 360 route kilometres and some 450 stations. ..
