Abstract

This paper presents an efficient method for calculation of Transfer Capability adopting Breadth First Search Algorithm. The Breadth First Search Algorithm like Dijkstra's algorithms' is a graphical approach to determine the optimum operating state of the network and thereby calculate the Available Transfer Capability of the Transmission lines and areas. Several methods have been developed for determining Available Transfer Capability. However, the quest to develop more efficient and effective methods is still persistent. Mainly the objective of this paper describes the theory and simulation of Flexible Alternative Current Transmission System devices used in the disturbed power systems. One of these devices, Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator will be chosen for a specific application, described in this paper. A simple, direct method is proposed to determine the optimal placement of Flexible Alternative Current Transmission System devices for simultaneously maximizing the total transfer capability and minimizing the total system real power loss. The proposed method is tested on IEEE 9 bus and 14 bus systems and validated. Results have been presented and analysed in this paper.
