Modern medicine makes use of many plant-derived compounds as the basis for evidence-tested pharmaceutical drugs. The scientific information on the safety, efficacy and quality control of widely used medicinal plants such as ; to facilitate the proper use of herbal medicines is essential. The pulverized leaves of Glyphea brevis was subjected to extraction with soxhlet and the ethanolic extracts of the leaves was screened for the presence of steroids, Alkaloids, Saponins, Tannins, Flavonoids, Terpenoids, Glycosides, using standard qualitative test procedures. Further analysis of the potent bioactive. Further analysis of the potent bioactive compounds in the ethanolic extract of the leaves was carried out using Gas chromatography mass spectrometer (GCMS). The phytochemical screening rev ealed the presence of Tannins, Terpenoids, Alkaloids and Flavanoids in the leaves extract. Among many compo unds identified from the GC-MS analysis were 2 (Hexyloxycarbonyl) benzoic acid; 1, 2-Benzenedicarboxylic acid, butyl octyl ester; Hexadecanoic acid, ethyl ester; Phytol and 9, 12-Octadecadienoic acid, ethyl ester. The obtained results indicated the presence of potent therapeutic compoundswhich have anti inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti eczema properties in the leaves extract.
