Abstract

In this article, popular literature is deemed one of the components of modern communication. The author strives to demonstrate how communicative devices are used to enhance the reader's interest in a given text, as illustrated by the novels of A. Bushkov, A. Chizh, B. Akunin and T. Ustinova. The peculiarities of words and phrases that are obvious borrowings from well-known popular or literary discourse, and which are used to involve the reader in a dialogue with the author, are briefly analysed and illustrated through several examples from novels by modern writers in whose work intertextuality is most pronounced.
