Abstract

The apparent effects of predators on the sheep industry of Natal were investigated by interviewing a number of randomly selected sheep farmers throughout the province. The majority opinion was that predators are having a significant effect on the industry. Based on this, the annual estimated total of sheep and lambs killed is 3% of the Natal flock with a value of over R3 million. Indirect losses caused by injuries to stock, a drop in productivity owing to corralling and other effects may also be significant.
